Commitment to Quality

All Blue Claw products are handcrafted at our Minnesota factory using only the finest materials available. Each item is thoughtfully designed with the hope that it will be your favored travel companion for decades to come.

Our Bags

Leather

We use only full grain leather from fresh-prepared hides called “Wet Blues.”  Wet Blue refers to the blue tone of the hide derived from a “high-exhaustion tanning process.”  This leather product is very stable, pliable and durable – a perfect starting point for high-grade leathers.
To get a finished state, the Wet Blue hides are re-wetted, shaved, placed into massive wood drums to soak in a float of tree oils, tanning agents and dyes. This allows for a great deal of penetration into the hide – a helpful trait for concealing future scuffs and maintaining the consistency of colors as the leather is "broken in."

Waxed Cavas

We use a heavy weight 14.7 oz. 100% cotton fabric impregnated with Martexin wax proprietary mixture, a unique formula that gives the fabric lifelong resistance to inclement weather, while cotton fibers allow it to breathe.  As the fabric ages, it develops a well-worn and comfortable patina.  The patina develops with more and more use, in the same manner leather ages and burnishes with time.
Martexin Original Wax is an authentic American product that has stood the test of time.   It is technically superior to other waxed fabrics in performance, longevity, and dryness of hand.  The Martexin formula consists of food and pharmaceutical grade waxes, and is completely non-hazardous.

Ballistic Nylon

Our polyurethane coated, water-repellent 1050 Denier Ballistic Nylon is a tough, synthetic fabric woven from Invista yarns.  The basket weave of this ballistic nylon, combined with the resilient nature of Invista yarn, make it the perfect choice for rugged applications where durability and abrasion resistance are a high priority.

Solid Brass

We use solid brass hardware or, where a silver finish is specified, nickel plated brass, neither of which pit or rust.

Our Small Leather Goods

We use a veg-tanned, drum dyed and hot stuffed leather for all of our wallets and accessories. This super durable leather has a rich feel with good pull up and water resistance and will only get better with time.

CARE AND CLEANING

As your bag and accessories age, each piece will take on a warm patina, unique to each owner. To maximize the lifespan of your investment, dust periodically with a dry cloth to remove residual particulates and prevent dirt from building up. Never use harsh cleaners or solvents as they could abrade the topcoat or the finish of the leather or canvas. Use only material specific cleaners, conditioners or waxes and always test on a small area before use. Keep pieces out of direct sunlight for long periods of time and store your product in a dust bag when not in use. Feel free to call us with any questions and join our mailing list for bag specific tips and tricks.
